On the road again

Things are looking up, apart from a few snuffles the cold has all but gone. I have just come back from a hill climbing session with the GSK running club. This was my first proper run for nearly 8 days and really was just what I needed at the moment.

As part of my recovery over the weekend I did some bike riding. I did the same 9 mile route that I usually run. To my horror I discovered that the 9 miles, as measured in the car, was actually 8.4. I can comfortably complete this distance in 1 hour and 17 minutes. It has meant that my projected 13.1 mile time which was 1 hour and 52 minutes is now 2 hours exactly!

I’m playing badminton tonight and football tomorrow; this will test out the ankle! My last run will be on Thursday I plan an even paced 9 miles, sorry 8.4!

Whatever time I do on Sunday, I will be back for more. I can’t see any reason why, with better preperation, I shouldn’t be able to beat 1:45.

Good luck to you all on Sunday.

Hey there John-Paul... Its nick here (your mentor).

I have been picking up your blog and you are sounding man keen - great work. Having run the GNR before you will find it is a great atmosphere and a relatively flat course except miles 11-12. I have my fingers crossed for you to achieve your goal and I reckon if you can find that steady pace from the pace bands you'll be well on course. Keep those sniffles in check and eat and drink well over the next few days.

Look me up in Newcastle and I hope you run well

Nick

Hi John-Paul,

It's been a while since we last spoke at the Running Seminar with Liz Yelling. I am so glad you got our final place on TLS for the race and it's great to see you getting so stuck in to the training and that you are supporting the GSK running club too. Good on you for getting involved. Sorry to hear you have had a few injury problems but I hope you have an awesome race on Sunday despite these hiccups. The atmosphere in itself, as Nick mentions, is enough to keep you going.

Enjoy it and see you soon!

Sal
